Houses and Flats on the Estate have slightly different systems for recycling:-
Houses
Houses are provided with a selection of coloured boxes as part of Stevenage Borough Councils Recycling Box scheme.
The boxes are:-
RED
The Red box is for Glass bottles and jars only.
Please do NOT include: Pyrex, Sheet Glass, Light Bulbs or Drinking Glasses.
BLUE
The Blue box is for Metals, Cardboard and Paper. It is split in to two halves:-
First half:
- Metal food and drink cans
Second half:
- Newspapers
- Magazines
- White paged telephone directories (NOT Yellow Pages or Thompson’s Directory)
- Junk mail
- Home shopping catalogues (please remove cardboard covers)
Please do NOT include Cardboard of any kind. Cardboard can be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Red and Blue boxes are collected on the same day as your main waste collection but a bit later. Your boxes should be out by 8:00 am.
If your Red or Blue boxes have been damaged and need replacing then you can contact the council for new ones via their Household Collection – Recycling webpage.
BROWN
The Brown box isn’t really a box it is a Wheelie bin. It is for recycling Garden Waste. The Brown Wheelie bins are provided as part of the council’s Garden Waste Recycling Scheme. Brown Wheelie Bins are collected fortnightly on the Monday and at the same time as your main waste collection.
Your wheelie bin should be out by 7:00 am. There is a pdf document detailing collection dates on the Garden Waste Recycling Scheme webpage above.

Flats
Recycling of paper, glass and tins for residents in Hellebore Court and St Michael’s Court is by using the three special coloured wheelie bins provided in the bin rooms of each block.
RED Wheelie Bin
The Red Wheelie Bin is for:
- Glass bottles
- Glass jars
Please DO NOT include: Pyrex, Sheet Glass, Light Bulbs or Drinking Glasses.
Black Wheelie Bin
The Black Wheelie bin is for:
- Metal food containers and trays
- Drink cans
- Plastic bottles
- Plastic food trays / containers
- Tetrapak Drink cartons
BLUE Wheelie Bin
The Blue Wheelie Bin is for Paper, Magazines and cardboard.

- Cardboard
Please do NOT include VERY LARGE Cardboard boxes. If cardboard doesn’t fit in the wheelie bin it will not be taken. Large Cardboard Boxes and items can be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centre. Please do not dump items that are too big in the bin room. It is YOUR responsibility to dispose on any waste that cannot fit in the bins or cannot be recycled in the recycling bins.
The Recycling Wheelie Bins are emptied on the same day as the main waste collection but a bit later at 8:00 am.
